SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific sophomore Mar Pastor Alvarez scored with 11 seconds remaining in game three of the 2017 Golden Coast Conference Women's Championships, giving the Cougars a 7-6 win over Santa Clara to advance to their first ever semifinals.

It was a classic match-up between the four and five seeds as it went back-and-forth all afternoon at SCU's Sullivan Aquatic Center. Second-team All-GCC Hannah Buck led Santa Clara with three goals while Britt Harris had three for APU.

It was all defense early as Santa Clara's Susan Providenza scored with 15 seconds left in the first half to send it into the locker room tied at 1-1.

The late goal gave the Broncos a boost as they scored the first two goals to open the third quarter for a 3-1 lead. However, APU roared back with four straight goals to take the lead. Alex Paxton's goal with five minutes to play in the game made it 5-3.

The teams would trade goals, giving APU a 6-4 lead with 2:29 to play.

Santa Clara wasn't done. Cathy Cantoni scored on a 6-on-5 to make it 6-5 with 1:48 to play and then on the next possession, Buck would tie it with 1:18 to play. Both teams would have a possession before Alvarez' game-winner.

The Cougars advance to face top-seed San Diego State in the second semifinal on Saturday at 1:30 pm. Every game will feature a live broadcast and live stats from THE FOSH. All links can be found at TOURNAMENT CENTRAL on GCCWaterPolo.com.
