LOS ANGELES – The Golden Coast Conference announced the inaugural men's postseason honors for 2016 and Pepperdine's Marko Asic (SO/Laguna Niguel, CA) and Long Beach State's Nolan McConnell (SR/Laguna Beach, CA) have been named the 2016 Co-Players of the Year as voted on by the league's six head coaches.

Joining Asic and McConnell with an individual award was Pacific's Ege Colak, who was named the GCC Newcomer of the Year. Asic led the GCC in goals with 62 while McConnell paced the 49ers attack all season with 41. As for Colak, he ranked second in the league with 46 goals in his first season of collegiate water polo.

Asic and McConnell were part of the eight-man All-GCC First-Team in the league's first season. Joining them were a trio of players from regular season champion UC Santa Barbara, including Reed Cotterill (SR/Sydney, Australia), Shane Hauschild (JR/Santa Barbara, CA) and goalie Liam Lenihan III. Rounding out the first-team were UC Irvine's goalie Matej Matijevic, Pacific's Aleksandar Petrovic and Pepperdine's Mark Urban (JR/Budapest, Hungary).

Second-Team All-GCC honors went to Colak, Duncan Lynde (JR/Laguna Beach, CA) of Long Beach State, Ikko Saito (SR/Cerritos, CA) from Pacific, LBSU's Austin Stevenson (SO/Fair Oaks, CA), Pacific's Devon Thumwood (JR/Calgary, Alberta, Canada), Mate Toth (FR/Balatonalmadi, Hungary) from Pepperdine and Jack Trush (SO/Newport Beach, CA) from UC Irvine.

Closing out the all-conference honors as honorable mention selections were Luis Arua from Pacific, Ivan Gvozdanovic (FR/Novi Sad, Serbia) from UCSB, San Jose State's Ben Hauschild (FR/San Marcos, CA), Boris Jovanovic from UCSB and UC Irvine's Ryan Warde (JR/Newport Beach, CA).

The GCC also announced the 2016 All-Freshman Team. This year's team includes Araya, Colak, UC Irvine's Ian Fleenor (FR/Murrieta, CA), Gvozdanovic, Bryant Joudrie (FR/Calgary, Alberta, Canada) from UC Irvine, Pacific's Alen Osmanovic (FR/Belgrade, Servia), and Toth.

The 2016 GCC Championships begin today, Friday, with the first round of games starting at 6 pm from Stockton, Calif.
