LOS ANGELES -- California Baptist needed a last second defensive stand and three goals from first-team all-conference selection from Laura Kocsis to earn a thrilling 9-8 victory over Azusa Pacific in the fifth place game of the 2014 Golden Coast Conference Championships.

The final day of the first-ever GCC Championships got off to a thrilling start as Azusa Pacific's Megan Myers scored two fourth quarter goals, including her second with 1:41 to play to get the Cougars to within one, 9-8.

California Baptist goalie Meghan Rowland made 15 saves and held Azusa Pacific in check the final minute of the game.

The game was tied at 3-3 when the Lancers went on a 3-0 run to take a 6-3 lead with 6:09 left in the third quarter.

The Cougars weren't finished, as Alyssa Hess, who had three goals on the game to lead the Azusa Pacific, scored at the buzzer to cut the lead to 7-6 entering the fourth quarter.

CBU would scored first on a 6-on-5 to extend the lead to 8-6. And after APU's Rebecca Bennigson cut it to 8-7, Mallory Montano answered with the eventual winner with 2:23 to play.
