LOS ANGELES -- Santa Clara's Julia Peters scored a hat-trick, including the final goal of the game, to lift the third-seeded Broncos to a 10-8 win over sixth-seed Azusa Pacific in the first game of the 2014 Golden Coast Conference Championships at the Burns Aquatics Center on Thursday afternoon.

The Broncos kept the Cougars at arms length the entire game but could never seperate fully. Angelina Castaneda scored with 3:32 to play in the first quarter to tie the game at 2-2.

Santa Clara looked to pull away, scoring the last two goals of the quarter. The Cougars scored first on Alynn Reade's goal to make it 4-3.

Peters then helped the Broncos stretch the lead to three, scoring with just one second left in the half to give Santa Clara a 6-3 lead at the break.

The teams would trade goals throughout the rest of the game as Santa Clara never let go of their two-goal lead. Lora Donaldson led the Cougars with three goals.

Santa Clara will play in the first semifinal on Friday, taking on the winner of LMU and Fresno Pacific at 1 pm.
